Welcome to our new Fairbrae website! Many thanks to Steve Chaney for his hard work in setting this up. Our intent with this effort is to improve member and potential member communication. In addition to an updated look and feel we have added features like photo slide shows, event schedules, clubhouse booking schedules, information on our swimming and tennis programs and information for existing and prospective members.

Another new feature to the website is the BoardRoomBlog. This blog space will be updated regularly with notes on membership information, club projects and board decisions.

Please bookmark the new site and check it regularly – we are confident this will provide and improved avenue of communication to our members.

It has been a season of tremendous change at Fairbrae. Steve has energized the club with new programs and activities like the creation of the gate guards, revitalizing our learn to swim programs and putting together the Fairbrae Olympics and teen nights. These efforts have led to increased club usage and membership sales. We have 32 new members this year, the largest infusion of new families in club history. Please join me in welcoming our new members and making sure they feel at home in our club.

Last spring the board invited membership feedback via an on line survey. We were very pleased to receive greater than 50% response to our questions. I will attempt to summarize the responses here:

1) The majority of respondents approve of our club programs (swim lessons, swim teams, tennis lessons, etc…) and feel the club is doing a good job balancing the use of club resources between programs and general membership availability.

2) The majority of respondents believe the board could do a better job in communicating to the membership. This new website is largely in response to this feedback. We hope it helps our members and our prospective members keep up to date with club activities.

3) The majority of respondents enjoy participating in our social events (annual parties, Sunday night barbeques, etc…) and appreciate the efforts to organize these gatherings but are not necessarily willing to take on the responsibility of hosting. To address this issue the board voted this year to include free guest passes in the hosting packages for the Sunday night barbeque. We are pleased to report this incentive has had a positive impact on host volunteerism and we will continue this program for the coming season.

4) The majority of respondents are happy with our club facilities (clubhouse, pool, etc…) with one glaring exception: the club bathrooms/locker rooms. Both the functionality and appearance of these rooms received consistent negative response. TO address this the board is currently reviewing a winter project to renovate these rooms. This will be a major construction effort that we hope to complete in the off season. We will keep you posted through this blog and posters posted around the club as we get closer to a start date. We welcome any and all thoughts on the project.

The board will repeat this survey next year to gauge our progress so please take the time to respond. One key gap in this process is the fact that we only have email addresses for about 50% of the membership. If you know of a member who did not participate in the survey last year please ask them to send Steve their email address so that they can be included in member communications going forward.
